Hence  eating  disorders,  both  those  in  which  you  eat  too  little  (such  as  anorexia)  and  those  where  you  eat  too  much  &#8211;  leading  to  obesity,  sentiment  out  of  control,  and  resorting  to  desperate  measures. <td>  ReviewOn  the  left  is  one  small,  fat-free,  no-sugar-added  muffin.  On    the  right  is  a  cornucopia  of  food&#8211;several  pounds  of  fruit  and  a  pair    of  whole-wheat  rolls.  The  calorie  counts  are  identical:  720.
<p>  There    sits  Dr.  Howard  Shapiro&#8217;s  point:  dieters  imagine  that  they&#8217;re  saving    calories  by  eating  the  &#8220;virtuous&#8221;  snack  on  the  left,  whereas  in    reality  they&#8217;re  depriving  themselves  of  the  mountain  of  feed  on  the    right.
<p>  Dr.  Shapiro  believes  that  there  are  no  bad  foods,  no  right    or  defective  reasons  to  eat,  no  perfective  number  of  meals  in  any  given    day.  He  doesn&#8217;t  believe  in  telling  clients  at  his  weight-loss  clinic    in  Manhattan  when  they  may  or  can&#8217;t  eat.  Some  of  them  are  celebrities    and  corporate  executives  with  such  busy  lives  that  mealtimes  are  often    unpredictable. A  10-ounce  loaf  of  crusty  bread  is  shown  to  be  equivalent  to    a  tiny  dish  of  Chex  Mix.  Two  ounces  of  reduced-fat  cheese  are  shown  to    be  equivalent  in  calories  <I>and</i>  fat  grams  to  two  ounces  of  salami.
<p>    The  photos  pit  all  types  of  snacks  and  a lot of  meal  selections  versus  each    other,  and  account  for  sugar,  salt,  and  starch  cravings.  The    text&#8211;easy  to  read  even  when  talking about  scientific  principles  that    scientists  don&#8217;t  entirely  comprehend  yet&#8211;covers  everything  from  exercise    to  nutrition  labels  to  menus  from  numerous  of  the  world&#8217;s  top  restaurants,    with  the  healthiest  feed  selections  highlighted.

I had subjected myself to every diet from Optifast to Jenny Craig to Dr. Atkins to Richard Simmon&#8217;s deal-a-meal and was successful at losing weight, but as soon as  the diet was over, all the weight came back&#8230;.   and then some.
<p>From the  moment I walked into Dr. Shapiro&#8217;s office, all the dieting rules that had  been drilled into my head were thrown out the window.  He and his team of  nutritionists taught me that I was actually setting myself up for failure  with diets that were based on deprivation and control.  I learned that I  was actually sabotaging myself with some of the dieting techniques I had  been taught over the years.  Almost every dieting counselor/coach/sadist  that I went to forbid me to eat fat, sugar, and salt, so I was trained to  eat only low-fat, low-sugar, low-salt (and low-taste) &#8220;diet&#8221; foods.  Every  morning, I choked down a waxy, low-fat muffin or a plain bagel, sometimes  making it more palatable with a smidgeon of low-fat cream cheese because I  thought I was being good.  In my mind, I was a model dieter&#8230;. but yet, I  GAINED weight.  How could this be!   And the frustration just led to more  eating.
<p>The first and most poignant lesson I learned from Dr.  Shapiro was that a bagel has the same calorie content as the three-egg deli  breakfast I avoided like the plague.   No wonder I wasn&#8217;t losing weight!    This book is full of simple strategies like this that help you to  understand what you are eating and enable you to make better choices.   There&#8217;s no starvation, no weird or embarrassing dieting tactics and no  suffering involved.  Throughout the entire time I was losing weight, I ate  most of my meals at restaurants, traveled extensively, and never felt like  I was on a &#8220;diet&#8221;.  It took me a year to lose those 40 lbs and I&#8217;ve kept  the weight off for four years.  My Dad started seeing Dr. Shapiro 6 months  ago and has lost 35 lbs.  I am thankful to Dr. Shapiro and his staff for  literally changing my life.  Read this book and follow Dr. Shapiro&#8217;s advice  and it can work for you too!</p>

The biggest factor  working for him is the fact that this is not a &#8220;diet&#8221; &#8212; i.e.,  replete with complicated and stringent eating rules and regulations &#8212; he  simply shows you that by increasing your consumption of fruits/vegetables  and decreasing your consumption of other foods (not necessarily eliminating  them however) you can eat a good deal of food (even interesting food) and  still lose weight/maintain weight.  The only thing I wish he had added to  the book: 1. more info on better meat choices (i.e., lean chicken etc.) 2.  ideas for people with seafood allergies (i.e., he includes many examples of  low cal meals based on shrimp, scallop, clams, etc- &#8211; but if you&#8217;re  allergic to seafood this part can be somewhat disheartening).  Overall, as  I mentioned in the title of this review &#8212; it&#8217;s a well-written,  well-illustrated book and it is worth a read.</p>

White<br />Dr. Shapiro&#8217;s book turned me around overnight. I&#8217;ve never gone on a diet before -so I don&#8217;t know how the others work. I was simply ignorant of how many calories were in different foods. I just ate what came before me, including junk foods at the convenience store. After ,looking at the  sensible pictures (well done, by the way), I changed my eating routine  immediately, with no regrets. I simply eat stuff that has less calories-  without having to diet. To begin with, I&#8217;ve been taking this product for nearly about two months now and I really have noticed a difference in how my body is working these days.  I feel like I sleep so much better than I have in years and I think that this in part is due to the cleansing properties of the acai.  I&#8217;ve been able to lose over 21 pounds in the two months with the energy it has given me to get into a healthier routine.  I will say the energy acai provides is a lot different than anything i have tried before for energy. I was embarrassed to leave the house, I never exercised on account that I was just too depressed and I really didn&#8217;t see a point, it&#8217;s not like it worked in the past. Then I came across this Acai Berry and heard it was really good at detoxing and aiding in weight loss. I had some people I knew who had tried other Acai products before and they didn&#8217;t like it so I was wary, however because of some fear of heart problems I didn&#8217;t want to make the situation worse by taking caffeine pills so Acai seemed the safest choice. I have so far been taking the Premium Acai for a little over two months and I have already lost 27 pounds. That&#8217;s literally unheard of. For motivation I have been watching the show &#8220;Heavy&#8221; and I don&#8217;t get how they struggle to lose just a little weight while for me, the fat is literally falling off me. I think that some of that weight loss is been through the cleansing aspect of this acai. It was little intense when i first tried it especially because I&#8217;m not a big fiber person. After the first day and I immediately felt like i was getting better sleep too.  It seems to work a lot better when I drank a lot of water during the day and stayed moving throughout the day, maybe this helps with the detox, I dunno!  All I can say is I&#8217;m very happy with the results and i would advise anyone to try it too!</p>

I must have a plan that I can easily tweak to adapt to my daily circumstances. This plan is the first one I&#8217;ve found that works for me.  I also follow Dr. Oz, and find much of the same information about healthy eating is presented on his show.  This book, however, synthesises a lot of confusing dietary recommendations into an achievable process.  This book makes it easy and takes the stress out.  I&#8217;m feeling so much better and my cravings have subsided.  I am beginning to lose weight at last. I highly recommend this. </p>
<p>Individuals can taylor it to meet their needs. I am hypothyroid, which makes it hard for the weight to come off under 1500 calories a day.  I combine this plan with a myfitnesspal.com to monitor my intake. This is working well for me.</p>

While I do rely on Amazon reviews most of the time, I never thought I&#8217;d actually write one myself, but this book soooo inspired me!  I&#8217;m not new to diet and nutrition, I actually ate most of the 12 powerfoods prior to reading the book and knew how bad &#8220;white stuff&#8221; was (as opposed to whole grains).  My problem like so many others is just plain over eating!  I was at my heaviest when I got this book and was basically in denial.  This book really opened my eyes and actually got me obsessed with losing weight.  In just under 3 weeks I lost eight pounds and went from a size 12 pants to a 10.  I have a long way to go but this is the first plan that I feel I can live with forever.  You truly are not hungry on this plan if you follow it properly.  The book is very easy to understand and the author is witty and interesting.  After I read this book I also got the new abs diet cookbook, as I wanted a physical book also (I got the ebook version of this particular book so I always had it handy).  There are plenty of recipes in this one too, but I just couldn&#8217;t get enough!</p>

I had tremendous success on the diet and was able to maintain my weight for several years after that&#8230; until I went through some changes in my life that resulted in a major lifestyle change (stopped exercising, changed my eating habits, etc.).</p>
<p>By that time, I had forgotten about The Rotation Diet. I tried many other diets (Atkins, juice fasts, vegetarian, etc.) in order to lose weight, but none were very successful. And, even when I had success, as soon as I came off of those diets, I would gain the weight again because none of those diets taught me how to eat when I was OFF the diet.</p>
<p>Recently, when going through some old boxes, I found my old copy of The Rotation Diet. The thing that makes The Rotation Diet work is that you are feeding your body highly nutritional, low-fat, low-calorie foods. Plus, with the concept of &#8220;free vegetables&#8221; (vegetables that are so low in calories that you can eat as much as you want) and &#8220;safe fruit&#8221; (a fruit that you can eat as a snack whenever you feel like you might cheat), you never feel hungry. However, critical to the diet is that exercise is a key part. You can still lose weight without exercise, but the weight loss won&#8217;t be as effective.</p>
<p>During my first rotation on the diet, I lost 13 pounds. When I rotated off of the diet, I stayed off for three weeks and basically ate whatever I wanted. The three weeks on the diet has influenced my eating habits, however, and I ate much healther during those three weeks than I had prior to the diet. Furthermore, I continued exercising regularly. During that three weeks off the diet, I ate some sweets and some high-fat foods (though I didn&#8217;t go crazy and eat them for every meal) and I didn&#8217;t put on a single pound. I attribute that to my body&#8217;s increased metabolism from exercising as well as my healthier eating habits as a result of the diet.</p>
<p>Also, because I had such success during the first rotation (both on and off the diet), I am highly motivated and excited about beginning my second rotation on the diet. Some people may be turned off by the restrictive meal plans (he basically tells you what to eat for every meal), but I found it very liberating. I never had to guess what I should eat for the next meal (and, therefore, give myself an opportunity to justify cheating). I also discovered that I like some new foods that I always thought I hated.</p>

The back portion showing the calories in various foods has no standard portion measurements, making it imposible to compare apples to oranges (If you&#8217;ll pardon the play on word)<br />The diet requires tremendous willpower because you will be very hungry on this extremely low calorie diet.  It is important that you read the entire book so that you understand the priciples that make this diet work.  If you aren&#8217;t willing to make a permanent( although not terribly difficult) lifestyle change, don&#8217;t try this diet.  If you are serious about loosing weight and keeping it off, this really works.  Because of the exercise and very low caloric intake, you might want to consult with a doctor before undertaking this diet.</p>

Rooney<br />I&#8217;ve been on many diets over the last 18 years and none of them compares to this diet on any level.  I have been successful on this diet whenever I do it.  I am a size 12 5&#8217;4&#8243; woman who has trouble losing weight and I just lost 15 pounds in one round (including 2 weeks maintenance)on this diet.  That is diet amazing.  You have to have the right mindset going into it and you have to stick with it even when it seems impossible, but you will achieve results.  I don&#8217;t follow the food plans of the diet at all.. I just do the calories.  </p>
<p>I have found a few foods that have really, really helped so I want to share them.  For breakfast I have one package of Quaker cinnamon roll oatmeal with 1/2 cup of applesauce stirred into it after it&#8217;s cooked.  I usually use those pre-portioned applesauces (50 calories) so it&#8217;s really easy.  Also, the thing that I just found this week is snack-sized cottage cheese.  It&#8217;s 90 calories and it keeps me from being hungry better than anything else for 90 calories.  They are perfect.  I buy yogurt (100 calories-key lime is the best), slim fast shakes (180 calories-cappucino flavor is delicious!!), 30 calorie fake cheese and 40 calorie bread (I toast the bread in the toaster, put cheese between 2 pieces and microwave the sandwich for *5* seconds to form a 110 calorie grilled cheese which is not that bad); wheat thins and tuna; and I fry eggs in no-cal butter spray and put them on 40 calorie toast with a little ketchup, salt and lot of pepper and it is very satisfying for 200-300 calories.   I eat a 15 calorie popsicle when I want to eats something sweet.  When I am starving and feeling like I might go off the diet, I eat as many dill pickles as my little heart desires with the caveat that I vow not to weigh myself the next day. Dill pickles are my go-to desperation food that I haul out when I can&#8217;t do it otherwise.  You will retain water, but you will have kept on your diet and that is the most important thing.  Just don&#8217;t weigh yourself the next day or your might lose motivation. </p>
<p>I eat the grand majority of my calories during the day before working out so I can actually focus at work.  Then, I go home at night and eat at least a cup of sugar-free jello with a few tablespoons of lite cool whip on it. Then, I go to bed.  Throughout the day I am prepared at all times with low calorie foods to eat.  I don&#8217;t find myself tempted to go get something because I have all my food with me all the time. I carry food in the trunk of my car, my refrigerator is never out of anything and I have food in my desk at work.  </p>
<p>I&#8217;ve cut out caffeine for the most part except my 1 big cup of coffee in the morning.  It&#8217;s best not to drink soda, but if I do, I drink caffeine free diet soda.  I&#8217;ve recently read that caffeine increases cortisol stress hormones in the body, which makes it hard to lose weight.  Who knows if it&#8217;s true, but I&#8217;m decreasing my caffeine anyway.  </p>
<p>When you are hungry, go to bed.  Get as much rest as possible.  Between all the added rest you are getting (which also decreases your stress and cortisol levels) and the time that you are using exercising (I exercise medium intensity for at least an hour 5 days a week), then you only have less than 14 hours in a day to eat anything. Do as many non-food related activities as possible.  </p>
