<p>You  will  want  to  carry out  aerobic  exercises  at  least  20  minutes  a  day  for  at  least  3  to  4  days  a  week.  If  you  are  attempting  to  lose  body  fat,  or  your  physical  condition  is  very  good,  then  you  may  want  to  work  longer  at  it.  Try  exercising  up  to  40  to  60  minutes  5  to  6  days  a  week.</p>
<p>Remember  there  is  no  real  need  to  go  overboard.  Moderate  intensity  is  almost  always  better,  and  is  more  enjoyable. They are Rachel who lost 161 pounds, LaRhonda who lost 202 pounds, and Alex who lost 216 pounds.  There&#8217;s also an 11 minute segment where they give advice.  This workout is designed for those who want to start losing weight and have not been active.</p>
<p>There are three levels in the DVD.  Each level has its own warm up and cool down.<br />In all three, Chris Powell leads a group with various fitness levels.</p>
<p>Level 1 is about 15 minutes.  This workout is for people, (like the people on the cover, when they first wanted to get fit), who are just starting out.  Movements are slow and carefully controlled.  Mr. Powell instructs with safety in mind and works on the upper body, the lower body, and the core.</p>
<p>Level 2 is about 25  minutes.  This workout bumps it up a bit by introducing some aerobic movements.  Aerobics include some high impact, but there&#8217;s always a low impact version shown.  Mr. Powell works more on the upper body, lower body, and the core.</p>
<p>Level 3 is about 30 minutes.  Mr. Powell continues the upper body, lower body, and core work with longer aerobics, a series of squats, pushups, ab work and so on.  Easier modifications are shown.</p>
<p>Mr. Powell&#8217;s instruction is friendly, gentle, and mindful of newcomers to exercise.  No equipment is needed.  The DVD explains consistency in exercising over time to improve health.</p>

<p>I don&#8217;t understand why this workout video received so few stars by some of the viewers.  I&#8217;m not overweight but needed something a little bit lower impact and this video delivered exactly what I was looking for.  I average 5 miles daily on the elliptical or treadmill and this video still gave me a decent workout and was easy on my joints.  THE VIDEO SAYS IT IS LOW IMPACT right on the case cover!</p>
<p> My weight fluctuates between 115-130 and I&#8217;m in my late 30&#8242;s  5ft 4in.<br />Level 1 I burned 40 calories (2.8 per minute avg)  216 steps with activity of 09 minutes moderate 00 vigorous.<br />Level 2 I burned 127 calories (4.3 per minute avg)  892 steps with 19 moderate activity minutes and 05 vigorous.<br />Level 3 (modified) I burned 137 calories (4.0 per minute avg) 1415 steps  19 moderate activity with 07 vigorous.</p>
<p>The only thing I would have liked would have been a visual countdown clock for each interval and a couple of the kickboxing workouts didn&#8217;t feel balanced.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m very happy with my purchase and glad I gave this video a chance.</p>

<p>I&#8217;ve  just  read  a  study  dealing  with  appetite-suppressing  drugs,  principally  one  called  <strong>Phentermine</strong>  (that&#8217;s  the  generic  name;  it&#8217;s  branded  with  other  names  such  as  Fastin).</p>
<p>I  had  to  read  the  report  three  times  before  I  understood  it&#8230;full  of  long  words  and  clinician-speak!<br />
<br />But  it  seems  to  me  that  this  drug  deals  with  the  sensations or changes  of  the  problem,  i.e  overeating  rather  than  the  problem  itself,  i.e  why  people  overeat.</p>
<p>People  overeat  for  a great deal of  reasons,  amid  them  boredom,  depression,  stress  and  from time to time  just  habit.<br />
<br />Eating  is  pleasurable;  it  stimulates  &#8220;feel-good&#8221;  chemicals  in  the  brain.  Chocolate  is  widely known and esteemed  for  this,  surprise,  surprise.  After  all,  what  is  better  than  a  family-sized  bar  of  Fruit  and  Nut?  Sex?  Miles  behind!!</p>
<p>On  a  more  severe  note,  this  good  sentiment  doesn&#8217;t  last.  So  you  carry on  eating.  And  in the end  it  gets  to  be  a  habit  that  you  can&#8217;t  stop.  And  don&#8217;t  want  to.  You  see  your  body  ballooning.  So  you  make  a  big  venture  and  go  on  a  diet.  Big  mistake!  (See  our  other  articles  for  what  we  think  of  diets!).  So  now  you&#8217;re  miserable.  All  you  may  think  of  is  food.  By  Tuesday  lunchtime  you&#8217;ve  given  up.  So  you  mentally  beat  yourself  up.  And  so  it  goes  on&#8230;.</p>
<p>In  a  nutshell,  and  without  any  technobabble,  there  is  an  area  in  your  brain  that  tells  you  when  you  are  hungry.  So  you  eat.  There  is  another  area  that  tells  you  when  you  have  had  enough.  So  you  stop  eating.</p>
<p>But  you  may  override  these  &#8220;switches&#8221;  if  you  undertake  hard  enough.  Hence  eating  disorders,  both  those  in  which  you  eat  too  little  (such  as  anorexia)  and  those  where  you  eat  too  much  &#8211;  leading  to  obesity,  sentiment  out  of  control,  and  resorting  to  desperate  measures.  This  is  where  you  turn  to  the  likes  of  Phentermine,  which  works  by  irruptive  with  the  &#8220;switches&#8221;,  accordingly  decreasing  your  desire  for  food.  Phentermine  likewise  stimulates  the  hormones  which  control  your  body&#8217;s  &#8220;fight  or  flight&#8221;  response,  which  switches  off  the  &#8220;hunger&#8221;  sensor  and  reroutes  more  blood  to  the  muscles  and  less  blood  to  the  stomach  and  digestive  scheme  ready  for  the  command  for  &#8220;Action!&#8221;  Which  never  comes.</p>
<p>Think  when it comes to  it;  if  something  startles  you,  or  you  have  to  abruptly  run  to  snatch  a  child  out  of  the  road,  feed  is  the  last  thing  you  think  about!  These  appetite-suppressing  drugs  interfere  with  the  alchemy  in  your  brain.  They  may  only  be  received  on  prescription,  and  that&#8217;s  only  after  a  indepth  medical  check-up  &#8211;  they  won&#8217;t  be  prescribed  if  you  have  sure  heart  difficulties  as  they  narrow  little  blood  vessels  and  may  cause  critical  disruption  to  the  oxygen  supply  to  the  heart.  They  may  likewise  raise  the  pressure  behind  your  eyes,  so  they  won&#8217;t  be  prescribed  if  you  have  glaucoma.  Or  overactive  thyroid.  Or  a  history  of  kidney  stones.  And  ordinarily  you  will  have  to  have  a  Body  Mass  Index  over  30  (i.e  obese)  to  be  considered.</p>
<p>Still,  it  looks  like  Phentermine  is  an  betterment  on  the  former  drugs  used  for  appetite  control  Amphetamines.  Yup,  I  kid  you  not.  But  the  major  problem  with  them  (apart  from  the  side  &#8211;  effects)  was  that  people  became  addicted!  So  if  they  didn&#8217;t  keep  taking  them,  they  suffered  from  withdrawal,  from time to time  getting  severely  ill.</p>
<p>But  Phentermine  does  have  long  term  side  &#8211;  effects;  among  them  danger  of  anaphylactic  shock  (oh  lovely!),  arid  mouth,  arrhythmia  (irregular  heartbeat),  shakes  or  jitteriness,  anxiety,  insomnia,  loss  of  sex  drive,  increase  in  blood  pressure&#8230;Shall  I  continue?  And  though  not  classed  as  addictive,  they  may  be  habit-forming,  leading  to  sensations or changes  of  withdrawal.<br />
<br />And  to  cap  all  that?</p>
<p>You  can&#8217;t  take  them  for  long  as  your  body  becomes  tolerant  and  they  stop  working!</p>
<p>Overeating  has  a  cause.  It  is  this  that  you  need  to  deal  with,  rather  than  resorting  to  drugs.  Alternative  therapies  such  as  hypnotherapy  and  acupuncture  have  been  known  to  be  helpful.  Keep  an  open  mind.<br />
<br />Phentermine  must  be  a  last  resort.</p>

So lets hope its something I can return. If not wasted $39.99 and now I see it has gone up $10.00.<br /> Just reminds me there are no short cuts in life.</p>

I had subjected myself to every diet from Optifast to Jenny Craig to Dr. Atkins to Richard Simmon&#8217;s deal-a-meal and was successful at losing weight, but as soon as  the diet was over, all the weight came back&#8230;.   and then some.
<p>From the  moment I walked into Dr. Shapiro&#8217;s office, all the dieting rules that had  been drilled into my head were thrown out the window.  He and his team of  nutritionists taught me that I was actually setting myself up for failure  with diets that were based on deprivation and control.  I learned that I  was actually sabotaging myself with some of the dieting techniques I had  been taught over the years.  Almost every dieting counselor/coach/sadist  that I went to forbid me to eat fat, sugar, and salt, so I was trained to  eat only low-fat, low-sugar, low-salt (and low-taste) &#8220;diet&#8221; foods.  Every  morning, I choked down a waxy, low-fat muffin or a plain bagel, sometimes  making it more palatable with a smidgeon of low-fat cream cheese because I  thought I was being good.  In my mind, I was a model dieter&#8230;. but yet, I  GAINED weight.  How could this be!   And the frustration just led to more  eating.
<p>The first and most poignant lesson I learned from Dr.  Shapiro was that a bagel has the same calorie content as the three-egg deli  breakfast I avoided like the plague.   No wonder I wasn&#8217;t losing weight!    This book is full of simple strategies like this that help you to  understand what you are eating and enable you to make better choices.   There&#8217;s no starvation, no weird or embarrassing dieting tactics and no  suffering involved.  Throughout the entire time I was losing weight, I ate  most of my meals at restaurants, traveled extensively, and never felt like  I was on a &#8220;diet&#8221;.  It took me a year to lose those 40 lbs and I&#8217;ve kept  the weight off for four years.  My Dad started seeing Dr. Shapiro 6 months  ago and has lost 35 lbs.  I am thankful to Dr. Shapiro and his staff for  literally changing my life.  Read this book and follow Dr. Shapiro&#8217;s advice  and it can work for you too!</p>

The biggest factor  working for him is the fact that this is not a &#8220;diet&#8221; &#8212; i.e.,  replete with complicated and stringent eating rules and regulations &#8212; he  simply shows you that by increasing your consumption of fruits/vegetables  and decreasing your consumption of other foods (not necessarily eliminating  them however) you can eat a good deal of food (even interesting food) and  still lose weight/maintain weight.  The only thing I wish he had added to  the book: 1. more info on better meat choices (i.e., lean chicken etc.) 2.  ideas for people with seafood allergies (i.e., he includes many examples of  low cal meals based on shrimp, scallop, clams, etc- &#8211; but if you&#8217;re  allergic to seafood this part can be somewhat disheartening).  Overall, as  I mentioned in the title of this review &#8212; it&#8217;s a well-written,  well-illustrated book and it is worth a read.</p>

White<br />Dr. Shapiro&#8217;s book turned me around overnight. I&#8217;ve never gone on a diet before -so I don&#8217;t know how the others work. I was simply ignorant of how many calories were in different foods. I just ate what came before me, including junk foods at the convenience store. After ,looking at the  sensible pictures (well done, by the way), I changed my eating routine  immediately, with no regrets. I simply eat stuff that has less calories-  without having to diet. It  is  speculated  that  a  high  protein  diet  has  a  favorable  effect  in  diabetes  due  to  the  capacity  of  proteins  and  amino  acids  to  stimulate  insulin  release  from  the  pancreas. COLLIER<br />This is a book for food for Diabetics, especially type II. The recipes and methods follow Dr Bernstein&#8217;s other book (The Diabetes Solution: The Complete Guide to Achieving Normal Blood Sugars &#8211; which I highly recommend from seeing it actually work on on my mother and my spouse).</p>
<p>First things first: There have been other reviewers who seem to not only  to have missed the point that this is for *diabetics*, but also have an axe to grind with snarky comments about &#8220;low carb taliban&#8221;.  Thats an idiotic thing to say when uncontrolled carbs are the very things that are killing the type II diabetic with uncontrollable blood glucose levels.  This is not some flavor of the month to be glib about &#8211; this is a lifestyle change to treat a life threatening disease.</p>
<p>There is no cure &#8211; you will have to change your life; Dr Bernstein is quite clear about that.  And Diabetes is all about  rules you must use to control your blood sugar.  It all begins with your food.  Control your food intake and you will enable control of your blood sugar.  And thats is where the &#8220;strict&#8221; and &#8220;forever&#8221; come from.  Regardless of how snarky some people wish to be about it, this is a choice between eating that cinnabon and dying of diabetic complications, or moving along and realizing that you are making a trade-off: the carbs for your health.  Either you control your diabetes or you will die from it.</p>
<p>There have been comments made about the &#8220;outlawing&#8221; of Splenda (and Equal as well, had that the review bothered to read further), but this  applies only to the *powdered form*. Dr Bernstein instead recommends Stevia if you wish to use a powder, or the *tablet* form if you wish to use Equal or Splenda.  In fact, the tablet form of Equal is what Dr Bernstein writes that he himself uses.</p>
<p>All the facts: dieters should note that many of the artificial sweeteners in the dry form you find in those blue or yellow or pink packets actually contain sugars other than sucrose in order to provide bulk and avoid bitterness.  Read the label in the grocery store and you will see that is the truth about a vast majority of the powdered forms, especially things like dextrose.   </p>
<p>Beware of poeple who cavalierly and foolishly dismisses the presence of those substances, even though they are sugars!  This causes me to seriously question whether that such people did much more than skim the book to reinforce thier biases.  I urge people to go browse this book or the reviews for the other Bernstein book (or other sections of the book as published online at Dr Bernsteins web site).</p>
<p>Back to this book now that some common erros and misconceptions have been pointed out:</p>
<p>The recipes in here fit very well into almost any low-carb diet.  But unlike the typical &#8220;Atkins&#8221; recipes (which some people use as an excuse to have a bacon-grease free-for-all),  they also take into account protein and fat content to a much greater extent.  There is a lot of difficulty in coming up with a menu that keeps your carbohydrates in line with Dr Bernstein&#8217;s inescapable &#8220;Laws of Small Numbers&#8221;, but this cookbook is a great starting place.  </p>
<p>The recipes do not use many exotic items, and are reasonably easy for an experienced home-cook to prepare.  There is a lot of &#8220;flavor&#8221; in these dishes, so, unlike some other low-carb diet plans I&#8217;ve had, there is no need to eat with your fork in one hand and the tabasco sauce in the other.</p>
<p>However, after a while, even these recipes will get &#8220;stale&#8221; if this cookbook is all you are using.  There are not really as many recipes as most other low-carb cookbooks.  But by examining how this book put together the proper amounts of protein and carbohydrate, proper portioning, and the proper types of carbohydrates, you can readily take other low-carb recipes and menus and adapt them to fit into the Bernstein Diabetes Solution.  For example I was able to adapt many of the recipes in Carpender&#8217;s &#8220;500 Low-Carb Recipes&#8221; and &#8220;15 minute Low Carb Recipes&#8221; books with little trouble at all.</p>
<p>Bottom line: For the casual dieter, there are probably easier ways of doing that, but for the diabetic, this is the gold mine.  This book, along with the main &#8220;Solution&#8221; book will be invaluable for those working with their doctors to implement their own personalized &#8220;Diabetes Solution&#8221; to control and achieve normal blood sugars.</p>

Yes it is possible to &#8220;normalize&#8221; your blood sugars! I follow this plan and it has worked!  My gestational diabetes converted to the real thing in 2002.  I was put on the conventional ADA diet (220 carb a day!) and quickly found I could not keep my blood sugars in range on this diet. In frustration I read everything I could to research this disease.  I had worked as  therapist in a rehab hospital long enough to see hundreds of diabetic patients suffer strokes, heart attacks, kidney disease, amputations etc.  I had a healthy fear of this disease!!! In short, it kills.  This book explains how Dr Bernstein suffered as a Type I diabetic for years until he -through trial and error- figured out what foods to eat to normalize blood sugar. I now eat low carb as Dr Bernstein recommends and have never felt better! The website for the book is www.diabetes-book.com.  The forum on this site is exceptional for recipes and support for following this program. I  have so much admiration and respect for Dr. Richard Bernstein.  He&#8217;s not out to make a buck&#8230;no low carb products/gimmicks.  He became an MD to teach other diabetics how to &#8216;normalize&#8217; their blood sugars and works only with diabetic patients.  I recommend this book to every diabetic person I meet!!! To Dr.Bernstein I say thank you, thank you, thank you!</p>

This is Dr. Bernstein&#8217;s program distilled to its essense. </p>
<p>I had heard about it from his web site, and ordered a copy before it was published. Even though I read Diabetes Solution (both editions) I did not realize that Dr. Bernstein was the FIRST diabetic to monitor his own blood sugars (and his account of how he stumbled on his program is pretty funny&#8211;he thought exercise and not diet was the key). </p>
<p>I got the book about three days ago and have already read it cover to cover and tried some of the recipes. The chef is a genius. She runs a restaurant but has a son who is a type 1 diabetic, so she knows how to cook for a diabetic, but she also really knows how to cook&#8211;or create, or whatever&#8211;she&#8217;s an artist.</p>
<p>We had people over for dinner and I made the veal with fennel and mushroom cream sauce and the green bean recipe and people raved over the food so much that I had to write down the recipes for three of my guests. I&#8217;ve had people ask for recipes, but never had THAT happen before (not a single one of them was a diabetic or low-carb dieter).</p>
<p>Despite what seem so far like fantastic recipes (I tried the turkey and stuffing recipes for Christmas and they were WONDERFUL), the book itself is easy. Dr. Bernstein lays out all the information very clearly without a lot of the science that is in Diabetes Solution. The science is good, but sometimes it&#8217;s a little overwhelming and you just want to say, Okay, fine, but just tell me what to do. Dr. Bernstein does that in this book very clearly and does it really well. </p>
<p>As usual, he debnks a lot of myths and explains exactly why, for example, the glycemic index isn&#8217;t worth much (there are many of them, they don&#8217;t agree on what food should be what number, etc.). </p>
<p>For people who want to cut to the chase and start his program to get their blood sugars into normal ranges&#8211;without knowing all the ins and outs of why&#8211;this book is perfect. It&#8217;d be great for people who just want to eat a tasty, low carb diet. As a companion to Dr. Bernstein&#8217;s Diabetes Solution, it&#8217;s worth it for the recipes alone, but it&#8217;s much more than that. </p>
<p>While the book is called The Diabetes Diet, it could also be used by anyone who wants to eat healthy and avoid diabetes. And with the endless rise of diabetes around the world, that&#8217;s a lot of people. Dr. Bernstein treats lots of overweight people&#8211;people not technically diabetics&#8211;and helps them avoid the awful side effects of diabetes.</p>

Anything  under  that  is  considered  to  be  a  low-calorie  diet.  Clearly  the  whole  idea  of  a  low-calorie  diet  is  to  lose  weight  quickly,  but  again  &#8211;  it  may  be  rather  dangerous  so  it  must  always  be  exhaustively  planned  with  a  nutritionist  or  your  family  doctor.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s  well  known  that  the  best  way  to  lose  weight  is  to  burn  more  calories  than  you  eat.  You  may  do  this  by  burning  more,  or  by  eating  less.  Your  body  needs  a  sure  number  of  calories  just  to  exist.  If  you&#8217;re  not  eating  enough,  the  theory  is  that  your  energy  needs  will  be  taken  from  the  fat  calories  in  your  body.</p>
<p>The  problem  is,  our  body  is  very  smart.  It  won&#8217;t  just  keep  burning  the  same  number  of  calories  and  taking  the  excess  from  fat.  Your  body  doesn&#8217;t  recognise  that  you  are  on  a  diet.  It  will  think  you&#8217;re  starving.  To  support  keep  you  alive,  it  will  cut  way  back  on  the  number  of  calories  that  uses.  To  do  this  it  will  slow  down  your  metabolic  rate  and  will  start out  eating  away  at  your  muscle  mass  &#8211;  to  get  it&#8217;s  necessitated  calories.</p>
<p>Over  a  long-term,  this  is  disastrous.  Your  muscles  burn  far  more  calories  than  your  fat,  so  if  you  lose  them,  it  not  only  has  a  bad  effect  on  your  body  but  it  likewise  affects  your  capacity  to  keep  weight  off  in  the  future.  The  500  calorie  diet,  as  one  of  the  diets  for  quick  weight  loss  &#8211;  works&#8230;  but  only  for  a  short  term.</p>
<p>The  negative  effects  may  vary  depending  on  your  body  type,  height,  action  level,  overall  health  and  gender.  500  calories  per  day  may  be  sufficient  for  a good deal of  humans  for  a  short  while.</p>

<p>You will feel silly when he tells you to &#8220;&#8230;Reach UP for help from God&#8230;&#8221; to avoid self sabotage. </p>
<p>I ve read about 60% of this book. I am sure that there is something of value here, but it really didnt fit me.</p>

Also, there&#8217;s still a lot of planning involved and things so I don&#8217;t see his point about it being that much different from other &#8220;diet plans&#8221;, it&#8217;s basically the same thing as calorie counting, it was a good read and it definitely gave me some motivation.</p>

Clearly  the  whole  idea  of  a  low-calorie  diet  is  to  lose  weight  quickly,  but  again  &#8211;  it  may  be  rather  dangerous  so  it  ought to  always  be  exhaustively  planned  with  a  nutritionist  or  your  family  doctor.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s  well  known  that  the  best  way  to  lose  weight  is  to  burn  more  calories  than  you  eat.  You  may  do  this  by  burning  more,  or  by  eating  less.  Your  body  needs  a  sure  number  of  calories  just  to  exist.  If  you&#8217;re  not  eating  enough,  the  theory  is  that  your  energy  needs  will  be  taken  from  the  fat  calories  in  your  body.</p>

Your  muscles  burn  far  more  calories  than  your  fat,  so  if  you  lose  them,  it  not  only  has  a  bad  effect  on  your  body  but  it  also  affects  your  capacity  to  keep  weight  off  in  the  future.  The  500  calorie  diet,  as  one  of  the  diets  for  quick  weight  loss  &#8211;  works&#8230;  but  only  for  a  short  term.</p>
<p>The  negative  effects  may  vary  depending  on  your  body  type,  height,  action  level,  overall  health  and  gender.  500  calories  per  day  may  be  sufficient  for  numerous  people  for  a  short  while.</p>
<p>For  the  immense  majority  of  us,  in particular  if  we  are  carrying  extra  weight,  eating  only  500  calories  per  day  is  in a literal sense  starving  our  bodies.  Most  likely,  you&#8217;ve  been  taking  in  2000  to  5000  (or  more)  calories  per  day  and  abruptly  dropping  to  500  will  without delay  move  your  body  into  starvation  mode. However, in light of T. Colin Campbell&#8217;s unprofessional attack on this book, I believe I must speak up to share my story and the good health that has resulted in my following the Atkins plan.  I am nearly 65 years old and have struggled with weight all my life.  I&#8217;ve been on many diets including a vegetarian one with little results in either weight loss or improved health.  In fact, my health markers were getting worse, and I suffered from arthritis, dry skin and elevated tryglyceride levels.  My blood pressure was borderline. Since following the plan outlined in this book, I have lost weight, my arthritis has improved substantially (particularly in my neck and shoulders) and my dry skin (which 2 dermatologists had diagnosed as rosacea) has disappeared.  My tryglyceride level dropped remarkably, but more importantly my HDL (the good cholesterol) has gone up and my latest BP was 117/76. I used to wear a size 18 &#8212; now I wear a 6 or 8.  All of these results came from following the plan outlined in this book.</p>
<p>What disturbs me further about T. Colin Campbell is that he has clearly put out a call to his vegan followers to come to the Amazon site and give bad reviews of this book, as he posted this nonsense on his webpage.  I don&#8217;t have a problem with their chosen lifestyle, but I do have a problem with the many deragatory posts that make it clear that they could not have read this book as they have no comprehension of its contents.  Shame on them.  Using the Amazon review system to grind their vegan axes should not be allowed. </p>
<p>Contrary to their ravings, the Atkins diet recommends lots of vegetables, a conservative amount of dietary protein and good fats.  All recommendations that are supported by recent science. Read Gary Taubes &#8220;Good Calories, Bad Calories&#8221; or the distinquished works of Dr. Mary Enig.   T. Colin Campbell has used this review process to further his own agenda and has encouraged his minions to post here.  They disparage the book as well as mouth urban legend lies about Dr. Robert Atkins (a cardiologist, BTW).  Anyway, read the book and make your own conclusions.  Don&#8217;t be led astray by these agenda-led and untrue attacks.  This 65 year old feels 20-30 years younger!!</p>

About two weeks ago a friend who has been an avid Atkins follower told me that I could join her on Atkins. Now that I have read this book I realize why I couldn&#8217;t lose weight before. I was eating so many &#8220;empty&#8221; carbs as bread, cereal, pasta, rice, potatoes, chips, and other snack foods plus lots and lots of fruit that I was never giving my body the chance to burn its own fat. In the two weeks that I have been following the vegetarian version of Atkins, I have already lost 5 pounds. Just as important, my constant hunger has disappeared. It sounds strange but I am actually eating more vegetables than I was before. It&#8217;s good to know that I can feel good about what I eat and have my body feel good too.</p>

Even if you choose to not follow the plan, you will be left understanding the dangers of a high sugar diet.  If you have any questions about the science, I would suggest that you &#8220;google&#8221; the prestigious authors of this book.  I am mortified by the number of reviews by those that have not read the book and have no idea about its contents.  I highly suggest that you read this book and judge for yourself.</p>

Anything  underneath  that  is  considered  to  be  a  low-calorie  diet.  Clearly  the  whole  idea  of  a  low-calorie  diet  is  to  lose  weight  quickly,  but  again  &#8211;  it  may  be  rather  dangerous  so  it  ought to  always  be  exhaustively  planned  with  a  nutritionist  or  your  family  doctor.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s  well  known  that  the  best  way  to  lose  weight  is  to  burn  more  calories  than  you  eat.  You  may  do  this  by  burning  more,  or  by  eating  less.  Your  body  needs  a  sure  number  of  calories  just  to  exist.  If  you&#8217;re  not  eating  enough,  the  theory  is  that  your  energy  needs  will  be  taken  from  the  fat  calories  in  your  body.</p>

Your  muscles  burn  far  more  calories  than  your  fat,  so  if  you  lose  them,  it  not  only  has  a  bad  effect  on  your  body  but  it  likewise  affects  your  capacity  to  keep  weight  off  in  the  future.  The  500  calorie  diet,  as  one  of  the  diets  for  quick  weight  loss  &#8211;  works&#8230;  but  only  for  a  short  term.</p>

I lost 60 pounds. 1 year later, and off the diet, I gained a few unwanted pounds. Lifestyle definately makes a difference.  Time for Essential again!
