Also, there&#8217;s still a lot of planning involved and things so I don&#8217;t see his point about it being that much different from other &#8220;diet plans&#8221;, it&#8217;s basically the same thing as calorie counting, it was a good read and it definitely gave me some motivation.</p>

However, in light of T. Colin Campbell&#8217;s unprofessional attack on this book, I believe I must speak up to share my story and the good health that has resulted in my following the Atkins plan.  I am nearly 65 years old and have struggled with weight all my life.  I&#8217;ve been on many diets including a vegetarian one with little results in either weight loss or improved health.  In fact, my health markers were getting worse, and I suffered from arthritis, dry skin and elevated tryglyceride levels.  My blood pressure was borderline. Since following the plan outlined in this book, I have lost weight, my arthritis has improved substantially (particularly in my neck and shoulders) and my dry skin (which 2 dermatologists had diagnosed as rosacea) has disappeared.  My tryglyceride level dropped remarkably, but more importantly my HDL (the good cholesterol) has gone up and my latest BP was 117/76. I used to wear a size 18 &#8212; now I wear a 6 or 8.  All of these results came from following the plan outlined in this book.</p>
<p>What disturbs me further about T. Colin Campbell is that he has clearly put out a call to his vegan followers to come to the Amazon site and give bad reviews of this book, as he posted this nonsense on his webpage.  I don&#8217;t have a problem with their chosen lifestyle, but I do have a problem with the many deragatory posts that make it clear that they could not have read this book as they have no comprehension of its contents.  Shame on them.  Using the Amazon review system to grind their vegan axes should not be allowed. </p>
<p>Contrary to their ravings, the Atkins diet recommends lots of vegetables, a conservative amount of dietary protein and good fats.  All recommendations that are supported by recent science. Read Gary Taubes &#8220;Good Calories, Bad Calories&#8221; or the distinquished works of Dr. Mary Enig.   T. Colin Campbell has used this review process to further his own agenda and has encouraged his minions to post here.  They disparage the book as well as mouth urban legend lies about Dr. Robert Atkins (a cardiologist, BTW).  Anyway, read the book and make your own conclusions.  Don&#8217;t be led astray by these agenda-led and untrue attacks.  This 65 year old feels 20-30 years younger!!</p>

About two weeks ago a friend who has been an avid Atkins follower told me that I could join her on Atkins. Now that I have read this book I realize why I couldn&#8217;t lose weight before. I was eating so many &#8220;empty&#8221; carbs as bread, cereal, pasta, rice, potatoes, chips, and other snack foods plus lots and lots of fruit that I was never giving my body the chance to burn its own fat. In the two weeks that I have been following the vegetarian version of Atkins, I have already lost 5 pounds. Just as important, my constant hunger has disappeared. It sounds strange but I am actually eating more vegetables than I was before. It&#8217;s good to know that I can feel good about what I eat and have my body feel good too.</p>

If you have any questions about the science, I would suggest that you &#8220;google&#8221; the prestigious authors of this book.  I am mortified by the number of reviews by those that have not read the book and have no idea about its contents.  I highly suggest that you read this book and judge for yourself.</p>

<p>Engaging  in  diets  for  quick  weight  loss  may  be  very  dangerous.  But,  if  you  don&#8217;t  mind  taking  risks  with  your  health,  the  500  calorie  diet  might  be  right  for  you.  Keep  in  mind,  that  even  when  taking into account  diets  for  quick  weight  loss,  the  500  calorie  diet  is  a  very  extreme  form  of  dieting.  Even  so,  it  have a tendancy  to  be  exceedingly  popular.</p>
<p>The  reason  for  the  popularity,  obviously,  is  that  you  will  lose  weight  quickly.  Low-calorie  diets  abound  among  humans  who  are  looking  for  quick  weight  loss.  But  even  amid  those  low-calorie  diets,  500  calories  per  day  is  at  the  low  end  of  the  spectrum.</p>
<p>First,  for  a  definition&#8230;For  a  diet  to  be  considered  low  calorie,  the  arbitrary  cutoff  point  is  1200  calories  per  day.  Anything  underneath  that  is  considered  to  be  a  low-calorie  diet.  Clearly  the  whole  idea  of  a  low-calorie  diet  is  to  lose  weight  quickly,  but  again  &#8211;  it  may  be  rather  dangerous  so  it  will have to  always  be  exhaustively  planned  with  a  nutritionist  or  your  family  doctor.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s  well  known  that  the  best  way  to  lose  weight  is  to  burn  more  calories  than  you  eat.  You  may  do  this  by  burning  more,  or  by  eating  less.  Your  body  needs  a  sure  number  of  calories  just  to  exist.  If  you&#8217;re  not  eating  enough,  the  theory  is  that  your  energy  needs  will  be  taken  from  the  fat  calories  in  your  body.</p>
<p>The  problem  is,  our  body  is  very  smart.  It  won&#8217;t  just  keep  burning  the  same  number  of  calories  and  taking  the  excess  from  fat.  Your  body  doesn&#8217;t  know  that  you  are  on  a  diet.  It  will  think  you&#8217;re  starving.  To  aid  keep  you  alive,  it  will  cut  way  back  on  the  number  of  calories  that  uses.  To  do  this  it  will  slow  down  your  metabolic  rate  and  will  get started  eating  away  at  your  muscle  mass  &#8211;  to  get  it&#8217;s  necessitated  calories.</p>
<p>Over  a  long-term,  this  is  disastrous.  Your  muscles  burn  far  more  calories  than  your  fat,  so  if  you  lose  them,  it  not  only  has  a  bad  effect  on  your  body  but  it  also  affects  your  capacity  to  keep  weight  off  in  the  future.  The  500  calorie  diet,  as  one  of  the  diets  for  quick  weight  loss  &#8211;  works&#8230;  but  only  for  a  short  term.</p>
<p>The  negative  effects  may  vary  depending  on  your  body  type,  height,  action  level,  overall  health  and  gender.  500  calories  per  day  may  be  sufficient  for  some  humans  for  a  short  while.</p>
<p>For  the  vast  majority  of  us,  peculiarly  if  we  are  carrying  extra  weight,  eating  only  500  calories  per  day  is  in a literal sense  starving  our  bodies.  Most  likely,  you&#8217;ve  been  taking  in  2000  to  5000  (or  more)  calories  per  day  and  of a sudden  dropping  to  500  will  without delay  move  your  body  into  starvation  mode.  So,  your  metamorphosis  slows  way  down  in  order  to  conserve  energy.</p>
<p>Our  bodies  are  rather  adaptable.  In  a  very  short  time  you  will  learn  to  survive  on  500  calories  per  day.  (At  least  until  you  run  out  of  calories  to  burn&#8230;then  you&#8217;ll  go  into  a  coma  and  die.)</p>
<p>Thankfully,  the  majority  of  us  discontinue  our  dieting  before  that  happens.  As  soon  as  your  diet  is  over,  and  you  go  back  to  your  old  eating  habits  &#8211;  like  we  all  do  &#8211;  you  will  have  a  sudden  gain  in  weight.  Actually,  you&#8217;ll  gain  more  weight  than  you  would  have,  had  you  not  ever  gone  on  a  diet  to  start out  with.  Diets  for  quick  weight  loss  just  don&#8217;t  work.  Plus,  since  you  have  lost  so  much  muscle  mass,  it  makes  it  much  harder  to  maintain  your  weight  in  the  future.</p>
<p>The  most  effective  method  of  determining  a  healthy,  livable  each day  calorie  level,  is  by  using  a  BMR/AMR  calculator.  It  will  tell  you  how  a lot of  calories  are  necessary  to  support  your  health  and  your  lifestyle.  Once  you  recognise  how  numerous  calories  you  need  to  maintain  your  weight,  then  you  may  subtract  500  calories  per  day,  and  you  have  one  of  the  idealisti  diets  for  quick  weight  loss  success.</p>
<p>Obviously,  the  mass  and  body  size  of  women  is  dramatically  dissimilar  than  that  of  men.  That  means,  they  need  a  dissimilar  number  of  calories  to  survive.  While  the  intermediate  man  may  eat  1500  to  1600  calories  per  day,  the  intermediate  woman  may  eat  only  1200  to  1300  calories  per  day.  You  ought to  consult  your  physician  before  starting  any  diet,  safety  has  to  come  first.</p>
<p>So,  to  wrap  it  up&#8230;  in  the  realm  of  diets  for  quick  weight  loss,  the  500  calorie  per  day  diet  is  very  popular.  It  will  work  to  support  you  lose  weight,  but  it  may  be  very  dangerous  &#8211;  And  your  weight  loss  is  only  temporary  at  best.  You  will have to  never  cut  back  that  dramatically  on  your  calories  without  the  uninterrupted  monitoring  and  supervision  of  a  doctor.</p>

Examples: &#8220;So I&#8217;ve together this Crockpot recipes,&#8221; &#8220;all about the different ways you can cook CHICKEN Crocopot.&#8221;</p>
<p>There is a hyperlinked table of contents that shows 59 recipes.  Be aware that at least 3 recipes are not &#8220;chicken&#8221; recipes (see below).  One recipe is listed twice in the table of contents.  I counted the recipes twice and came up with 57 recipes; I&#8217;m not going to research further to see where the problem might be.</p>
<p>There is an explanation of the Weight Watchers Points Plus program with the following note:<br />&#8220;Please note that this is not the official Weight Watchers formula. Source is from Wikipedia.&#8221;  I did not check to see if point values or nutrition information are accurate.</p>
<p>One recipe calls for<br />&#8220;2 Tbs. Wine<br />Red 1 10 Oz Peas, Frozen &#8212; thawed&#8221;</p>
<p>Obviously the line break is in the wrong spot, but it&#8217;s a lack of attention to detail.</p>
<p>One recipe says to add the bacon and vegetable mixture to the pot, &#8220;the olives (optional).&#8221;  There are no olives in the ingredient list.  One recipe calls for &#8220;2 cups of anise root.&#8221;  I had difficulty finding &#8220;anise root&#8221; on some of my trusted cooking sites, but this could be fennel.  (Seems like a lot of fennel to me, but I don&#8217;t use the stuff because I don&#8217;t like the anise flavor.)  The &#8220;Chili Crockpot Chicken&#8221; calls for ground turkey breast or lean ground beef.  The &#8220;Crockpot Soup&#8221; calls for ground beef sirloin.  The &#8220;Crockpot Split Pea Soup&#8221; has ham.  One recipe calls for &#8220;1 cup frozen small onions.&#8221;  In looking online, I do see several similar recipes and they do indicate they should be thawed.</p>
<p>The title says &#8220;nutritious&#8221; crockpot recipes.  Several recipes call for condensed soup, which I personally avoid.  Some recipes call for 2 or 3 cans of the stuff.  There are also recipes calling for rice mixes, boxed stuffing, or a skillet dinner mix.  Easy, sure.  Nutritious, I&#8217;m not so sure about as there are no veggies in some of the multi-can recipes and what seems to be a large amount of sodium.  I would strongly recommend looking at the recipes for more than &#8220;points&#8221; &#8211; look at the calorie count, the fat, and the sodium.</p>
<p>In my opinion, evaluating this book for my own use, it gets 3 stars.  There are a lot of recipes I won&#8217;t use because of the condensed soups or &#8220;mix&#8221; ingredients.  Some recipes do seem to be &#8220;variations on a theme,&#8221; such as 3 different recipes for Chicken Cacciatore and 2 for Italian crockpot chicken.  The recipes are slightly different, though, and not duplicates.  There are a couple of recipes I will probably use, one in particular calling for zucchini, raisins, and other veggies, which I didn&#8217;t have in my collection.</p>

I was actually looking for yet another diet book and saw this one next to it. I didn&#8217;t recognize the author&#8217;s name but I picked it up because of the title.<br /> This is an amazing book!! It looked a bit technical at first and I skimmed the chapters. I have since gone back through and read each chapter carefully. This book makes me want to scream, &#8220;Why isn&#8217;t this information out there for all dieters?&#8221; Every person who has struggled with weight issues needs to read this book!!</p>

I&#8217;m not sure that I am right now but maybe some time I&#8217;ll be more motivated and then I&#8217;ll be glad I have this book.</p>

Not only does she offer information that the medical community could use immediately to help those with appetite disorders, but she offer sufferers solutions that can make a difference in every home.</p>
<p>I bought six copies to give to friends. This book may finally be the beginning of true change for the overweight.</p>

Had this book been written by a knowledgable nutritionist, pyschatrist, or doctor, it really could&#8217;ve been something.  The concept, that we know ourselves best, is a good one, but for those of us who are still trying to figure ourselves out, the author doesn&#8217;t provide any advice on how to learn what works for us.  And, in fact, the author doesn&#8217;t know himself all that well, either.  It took a visit to his doctor for him to learn that citrus fruit is &#8220;bad&#8221; for him (and no explanation of how or why the doctor determined this, either, which struck me as suspicious).  This isn&#8217;t an obvious diet applicable to anyone&#8211;it&#8217;s merely the story of one man&#8217;s weight loss.
<p>After going on and on about &#8220;making your own rules,&#8221; the author proceeds to set out rules you must follow (including a fast day and a treat meal, two concepts that have never worked for me and are strongly advised against by most nutritionists).  And contrary to what the cover claims, the &#8220;Obvious Diet&#8221; does require you to change your lifestyle.  Let&#8217;s face it, if your lifesytle was working for you, you wouldn&#8217;t need to diet.
<p>The author is self-congratulatory and drops names like most of us would like to drop pounds.  If you want to read about the diets of Larry King and Koo Stark, you&#8217;ll enjoy this, but I didn&#8217;t read anything that I could reasonably apply to my life.
<p>I gave this book 2 stars because there are some good recipes (most of which are reprinted from other cookbooks).  Other than that, this book is a waste of good trees.</p>

The main point of the book is that each of us is unique and knows from experience what works. I love the idea of creating my own plan based on tying together the bits of what worked  here and there in the past. Also, creating my own cookbook of favorite recipes I love, too. </p>
<p>Not the best selection for those who have not dieted before, except that you could use this approach to stay in a thoughtful, experimental mode&#8211;there is usually SOMETHING from every diet/exercise plan we try that works&#8230;don&#8217;t throw the baby out with the bathwater, figure out what works and what doesn&#8217;t and build on that! Make it your own!</p>
<p>I took all his suggestions for diet as just that; the main idea is to stay true to who we are as individuals.</p>

Yes, we all know how to lose weight &#8211; eat less &#8211; exercise more.  I had thought that this would be an original, amusing take on losing weight &#8211; from a real person who was out there in the trenches &#8211; and actually lost weight.
<p>What I read was name dropping of all of the author&#8217;s famous friends and Mr. Victor listing every diet under the sun and being told to pick the parts you like from each one.  The book was relatively boring from the middle of the book to the end.
<p>I applaud Ed Victor for actually losing the weight and keeping it off.  However, this book is not going to help the rest of us until we have enough willpower to stop eating dairy, wheat, fat and sugar (which is soooooooo hard to do).</p>
